NBA tips

6:10pm Philadelphia 76ers @ Chicago Bulls – Paul George, over 4.5 assists
8:40pm Milwaukee Bucks @ Brooklyn Nets – Under 218.5 points
10:10pm Charlotte Hornets @ Indiana Pacers – Tyrese Haliburton, over 19.5 points
11:10pm Cleveland Cavaliers @ Miami Heat – Cavaliers -3.5
11:10pm Denver Nuggets @ Atlanta Hawks – Nikola Jokic, over 44.5 points & rebounds

Philadelphia 76ers @ Chicago Bulls – Paul George, over 4.5 assists

Has this been the best week of the season for the Philadelphia 76ers? Of course, the bar isn’t particularly high, but it must be, right? Philly has won three out of four, beating the Pistons and the Hornets and then splitting a two-game series with Orlando. They are still third from bottom in the East and clearly struggling, but it’s something.

There had been some chatter about a potential return for Joel Embiid but that seems too early so we’re sticking safe here and tipping George to pick up four or more assists, something he has done in each of his last three games.

Milwaukee Bucks @ Brooklyn Nets – Under 218.5 points

The points line here is set at 218.5, and although that is absolutely low, we cannot have any real faith in either of these teams when it comes to putting up points. In their last four games, the Nets have scored 100, 92, 102, and 99. Games have only gone over this points tally in that period when their opponents have scored heavily.

And the Bucks do not inspire in that regard. They did score 124 and 128 at the start of the week against Washington and Detroit but then dropped 104 and 105 when they came up against Atlanta (famously not a great defensive team) and Boston (a very good defence in fairness). Plus Giannis is still managing this patella injury and is still being listed as questionable, if ever it felt like he might be rested it could be here.

Charlotte Hornets @ Indiana Pacers – Tyrese Haliburton, over 19.5 points

The Hornets are bad. There’s no two ways about it after we’ve watched them through 23 games, but what are the Pacers? Are they a good team being held back by a truly brutal injury list? Or are they just a middling team, and it is as simple as that?

Regardless, after a four-game road trip, they should definitely take care of business against a Charlotte unit that will be missing LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, and Tre Mann. Haliburton’s over is a nice, safe option here.

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Miami Heat – Cavaliers -3.5

The Cavs are ROLLING. They took down the champs in last Sunday’s battle of the East and have maintained a 100% record this week, beating Washington, Denver, and Charlotte handily.

Of course, this is hardly the toughest schedule, but with the spread at just 3.5 points for this game, they should have more than enough for a Heat team that, whilst looking frisky, is yet to fully convince.

Denver Nuggets @ Atlanta Hawks – Nikola Jokic, over 44.5 points & rebounds

Honestly, what more can Nikola Jokic do? This guy drops fifty six points, and his teammates still find a way to lose. Jokic has hit fifty or more points on three occasions in the NBA, and he has lost every single time.

The Hawks’ defence has been better than expected, if not great, but it is still hard to see how they will have any answer for a man who looks as determined as Jokic does to drag his team into the playoffs. Expect him to have another dominant performance, just don’t ask us whether they’ll win or not.
