It is the first NBA Sunday of the new season! This is the time where Europeans can put up their feet on the sofa and kick back and enjoy back to back games at a reasonable hour.

The headline game sees the Philadelphia 76ers travel to Indiana to face the Pacers before two games at once as the Pelicans and Blazers play out the second of their two games whilst Milwaukee travel to America’s capital to face the Nets. Then for the night-owls amongst us we have Atlanta @ Oklahoma City before the LA Clippers face off against the Golden State Warriors.

Philadelphia 76ers @ Indiana Pacers

Indiana Pacers -7.5

Things aren’t looking good for the Philadelphia 76ers even though it’s early in the season. They’re 0-2, Joel Embiid is expected to miss at least two more games (maybe more) and the NBA is now looking into their star’s absence.

The Pacers also haven’t really gotten going yet, only edging past the Detroit Pistons in their opener before being totally blown out by the New York Knicks on Friday evening, with star guard Tyrese Haliburton failing to register a point…

However without both Embiid and Paul George it’s hard to see things getting much better for the 76ers, so we’re backing the Pacers to cover the spread.

New Orleans Pelicans @ Portland Trail Blazers

Under 219.5 points

The Blazers fought back admirably after a brutal opening loss against the Warriors but they still didn’t have enough as the Pelicans won a close one on Friday in the first of two games between these two sides.

As fun as the Blazers might be with their size and pace there is still just a real talent deficit here, particularly on offence. At the same time the Pelicans don’t seem to be fully firing yet despite being 2-0 so we’re taking the under here in what could be another tight affair defensively.

Milwaukee Bucks @ Brooklyn Nets

Damian Lillard over 26.5 points

From the Blazers to a former Blazer, the Bucks dropped a tough game against a surprisingly frisky Bulls team last time out but so far in two games Lillard has 58 points.

Last season Lillard spoke openly about how his conditioning wasn’t right because he didn’t want to get injured whilst he was waiting for a trade from Portland and it took him a long while to get fit and develop chemistry with Giannis Antetokounmpo (who had a monster game against the Bulls).

We’re backing Logo Lillard to explode against the lowly Nets for even more points.

Atlanta Hawks @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Holmgren to record 12+ rebounds

The Thunder put down a real statement on Thursday against the Denver Nuggets with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren dominating the former champions. Is this the Thunder’s season? In the West it certainly seems so, especially after a 19-point victory over the Bulls on Saturday evening.

Holmgren in particular seems like he’s taking a step, putting up 25 points, 14 rebounds and five assists Denver adding a further 21 points and a truly monstrous 16 rebounds against Chicago. It’s clear that together with SGA he is going to be one of the real catalysts for the Thunder this season. Whether he’s going up against Clint Capela or Onyeka Okongwu Holmgren he should be an absolutely dominant force at the rim.

LA Clippers @ Golden State Warriors

Warriors to win

Like the 76ers the Clippers are having to manage life without a star player with Kawhi Leonard expected to miss multiple weeks with injury. James Harden’s heroics were not enough against the Phoenix Suns in their opener but Norm Powell exploded for 37 as they stunned the floundering Nuggets to get on the board in their second game.

However it is hard to see a way past the Warriors, who have so far won their opening games by margins of 36 and 41 points. Yes, against the Blazers and Jazz, who are expected to prop up the West this season, but still after so many concerns over the summer it’s great to see the Warriors looking fluid, and perhaps most importantly, solid in defence.

Nothing fancy here, if you’re staying up late to watch this we don’t want you worrying about anything, just back the Warriors.
